AER21003   Group Design, Build and Test: Air Systems Development   (10 credits)

Year Running: 2021/2022
Credit level: F5

Description

This module is a group design project where the students design and manufacture an air system meeting customer needs which have been defined within a customer Statement of Requirement. The module is scenario-based and provides a sense of realism drawing on real life project processes and methodologies. The module brings together aspects of teamwork, project and risk management, project progress tracking and reporting, materials, structures, aircraft design and lifecycles, computer simulation, analysis, manufacture, certification and sustainability. Students will use CAD and structural analysis to reduce the weight of the air system frame while ensuring its airworthiness. Students will learn about motor and propellor sizing for rotor vehicles along with codes of practice, industry regulations, standards and certification. Students will present their final design to a panel of experts and non-experts who will assess whether the students have met the design requirements.
